Almonds
Almonds are our newest crop at Mellor Ranch. We grow the Independence variety with our first harvest planned for Summer 2023. This variety is unique, requiring one shaking and one harvest. Benefits include fewer passes in the orchard with a reduction of compaction and dust. Independence almonds produce very large high quality nuts which have a light color, yield an excellent sweet flavor and blanch well.
olives
We grow Arbequina olives for oil. Our olives are harvested, processed, and sold right here in California. The Arbequina olive is originally from Catalonia, Spain. It produces a more delicate, fruity oil than other olive varieties. Arbequina goes well drizzled over meats to bring out their intense flavors. It’s great in salad dressings, pesto, and baking.
Grapes
Our Chardonnay, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon wine grapes are grown in the Clements Hills AVA. All of our varieties are processed and bottled locally.
walnuts
Our walnut crops are of the Chandler variety. The University of California introduced the Chandler walnut in 1979 and named it after W. H. Chandler, Professor of Pomology, at U. C. Davis. Today it is the most prominent variety grown in California. The Chandler walnut is large, smooth and oval shaped with a good shell seal. Chandlers are known around the world and are highly prized by buyers for their extra light and high quality kernels. Harvested mid to late season, Chandlers provide one of the highest kernel yields of any of the varieties.
